Read Me!

Within the box are twelve abstract compositions painted on square pieces, each of which is bordered with magnets for attaching to each other. The base of the box reads, “VVVVV carries colors & shapes to engage your sight, touch, hearing. VVVVV is a vibration. VVVVV wills an experience beyond language.”

The creators intended for viewers to handle, observe, rearrange, and play with the pieces in their own way so that the work is constantly being reimagined. The many patterns, the magnets, the way the box unfolds, the rubber band binding the box together are all instrumentally interwoven. It is an organic projection of expression and experience in real-time. VVVVV invites the viewer into a playful space, in which they feel as though they are unwrapping a present, only to realize they will have to put it together themselves. Thus, the viewer is no mere viewer; they become the artist of their own unique work. The piece comes alive through constant, unexpected movement, the beautiful theme of VVVVV.
