Read Me!

Sarah McDermott’s Channel & Flow is meant to bring the viewer along for a visual walk along a path. Each page’s path is a little different from the others, leading the viewer to contemplate which part of the journey they are on and its connections to other places passed and encounters waiting to occur. The book uses abstract elements to signify water, plants, pipes, and ditches. The journey begins with few obstacles and only minor inconveniences, but the disturbing signs of human presence increase as we “progress.” Channel & Flow is a form of reflection—on the disruptions scattered around our environment, how each alters the path we must take, and how the journey changes from that point forward.
